Duke of Edinburgh Term Overview
This term, Mercia Academy's Duke of Edinburgh participants embarked on a series of exciting expeditions, showcasing their resilience and teamwork.Bronze Group Adventures:
- The boys' bronze group set off early at 7:50am, tackling the challenge of packing their tents and hoping for good weather and high spirits.
- The girls' bronze group started their 12km journey at 7:40am, motivated by the promise of a well-deserved ice cream at the finish line.
- Both bronze groups began their qualifying expedition at Parsley Hay in the Peak District, performing kit checks and studying maps before their walk to Hulme End.
- The boys enjoyed a hearty breakfast before their walk, while the girls set off early, well-rested and ready for the day's adventures.
Silver Group Achievements:
- The Year 10 Silver DofE group completed a challenging 3-day practice expedition, demonstrating impressive resilience and determination.
- Team silver set out from Barn Farm, Birchover, to Mandale House, Haddon Grove, covering a demanding 15km.
- The silver group practiced their navigation skills under sunny skies, accompanied by beautiful birdsong.
Camp Life and Activities:
- Both silver and bronze groups returned to camp after a 7-mile walk, ending the day with cooking tea and a game of rounders.
- The Year 9 boys' bronze group enjoyed lunch with a scenic view in the Peaks, maintaining high spirits in the sunny weather.
Overall, our Duke of Edinburgh participants have had a term filled with adventure, learning, and memorable experiences. We are proud of their achievements and look forward to more exciting journeys ahead.
