Mercia Academy Students Attend University of Nottingham’s STEM Research Insight Visit

On June 27, 2024, Year 9 students from Mercia Academy's Science Department attended the University of Nottingham’s STEM Research Insight Visit - Beyond Earth. The visit aimed to give students a look into careers in scientific research and teaching, with activities across Biosciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Geography, Mathematical Sciences, Psychology, Pharmacy, and Physics and Astronomy.

During the visit, students participated in a 'flat sat' workshop, programming satellites, while another group worked on welding satellites. Afternoon activities included handling 4000-year-old meteorites, learning about space medicine, and flying in a simulator.

Additionally, 12 Year 8 girls from Mercia Academy visited Nottingham Trent University to explore Computer Science, where they enjoyed a computer-based Escape Room activity.
