Mercia students inspired by Lionesses

At the end of November, 10 female students from Years 9 and 10 enjoyed an unforgettable day at St George’s Park, the official training base of the England national football team.

The girls – selected for their consistent participation in extracurricular activities throughout their time at Mercia – had the privilege of watching the England Lionesses train ahead of their upcoming match against the USA on Saturday, for which four of our students already have tickets.

Not only did they observe manager Sarina Wiegman putting the reigning European champions through their paces, but they also gained insights into the pre-activation exercises in the gym. After the training session, they met stars such as Leah Williamson, Mary Earps and Alex Greenwood, who posed for selfies and signed shirts.

On the journey home, Mrs Copley delivered a careers session, educating students on the skills needed to succeed in the sports industry and the diverse range of jobs available.

It was a truly wonderful day, and our students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to meet some of their footballing heroes.

A huge thank you to Richard Murkin and Sally Boam for organising this fantastic event.
