Thank you for your interest in Mercia Academy. We would be delighted for your child to attend our school.

If your child goes to a Derbyshire primary school, you will receive information through your child’s school about how to apply for a year 7 place. 

Applications are made via Derbyshire County Council website.  Visit their website for information on how to apply, deadlines and where to get support and help. 

ADMISSIONS PROCCESS 

If your child goes to a Derbyshire primary school, you will receive admissions information from the school  in early September. 

Parents apply for a place via the Derbyshire County Council website 

Closing date for Y7 applications for September 2025 intake is 31st October 2024. 

Use the DCC’s ‘find a school’ search to see catchment maps for schools and a list of schools within your local area. The ‘Schools and Colleges’ section has all the information required for entry to schools for September. 

If your child has been refused a place in the school you have applied to, you have the right to appeal against this decision. Appeals to decisions regarding school places are managed by Derbyshire County Council. Details, including the timetable for appeals, can be found here. 

The Mercia Academy will only accept students for the appropriate academic year based on their chronological age unless there is clear picture of need for a different year based on evidence e.g. EHCP/statement of SEN 

MID TERM (IN YEAR) ADMISSIONS 

All mid-term (in year) admissions for students in years 7-11 must go through the local authority at https://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/education/schools/school-places/changing-schools/changing-schools.aspx
